Pressing the 'Tab' or 'Shift-Tab' key toggles the highlight bar
between the Data Entry Window and the Scan Window. The Data Entry
Window is where you input your search instructions. The Scan Window
displays the listings that have been retrieved. When the highlight bar
is in the Scan Window, you can use the up/down arrow keys or the Page
Up/Page Down keys to browse the listings that you have retrieved.
Additional information regarding a highlighted listing is
displayed in the Listing Display Window in the upper right hand corner
of the screen. Additional information includes the full address, which
in some cases may not fit in the Scan Window. Select Phone, Free Phone,
and Canada Phone also contain additional information such as the date
the listing was last published in a white page directory. These three
products also have additional information relating to business records
such as the type of business, SIC codes, and the approximate number of
employees.
//ENTER
Pressing the 'Enter' key initiates a search for listings that
match the information you have entered in the Data Entry Window.
Hint: Before exporting, printing or counting listings, be sure that
you have pressed enter after entering your search criteria.
//SPACE
Pressing 'Space' tags the highlighted listing in the Scan
Window. You can tag as many listings as you please. Pressing 'Space'
on a listing that has been tagged will untag the listing.
Tagging listings is useful for isolating the listings you
may need. You can display all of your tagged listings by pressing
F-4.
//CTRLENTER
Pressing 'Ctrl-Enter' when the cursor is in the Data Entry
Window causes the highlighted field to be locked/unlocked. Locked
fields do not clear when 'Escape' is pressed. Locked fields are
highlighted in red.
Locking a data entry field is useful when you are conducting
repetitive searches.
//LINEHISTORY
You can recall information that has previously been entered
into a specific field in the Data Entry Window by pressing the Page Up
/Page Down keys. To do this, highlight a field in the Data Entry Window
and press Page Up/Page Down.
Obtaining the line history will eliminate the need to re-enter
part of a search that has previously been entered.
//FULLHISTORY
You can recall an entire search history for all of the fields in
the Data Entry Window by pressing 'Ctrl-Page Up' or 'Ctrl-Page Down'.
This will allow you to scroll through complete prior searches.
Obtaining the full history will eliminate the need to re-enter
complete searches that have previously been entered.
//ALTF1
ProPhone version 3.1 allows you to initiate three search
strategies: lookup, restrictive, and sort. A lookup search is where you
retrieve information be entering information into a single field. A
restrictive search is where you enter information in two or more fields.
A sort is where you instruct the software to retrieve listings that are
related to the highlighted listing, i.e. sorting by address will display
neighbors of the highlighted listing; sorting by telephone number will
display all listings with similar telephone numbers; sorting by name
will display all the records with a similar name.
Sorting by address and telephone number is currently supported by Select
Phone, Free Phone, and Canada Phone. Sorting by name is supported by the
entire ProPhone product line.
//F2
Will dial the highlighted listing through your Hayes compatible
modem. To complete the call, pick up your phone and press Esc after you
press F2 and the call is dialed.
You can cancel dial at any time dial by pressing Esc without
picking up your phone.
//ALTF2
Will configure your modem. You can also configure the dialing
sequence for three types of calls: Local Dialing, which is determined
by the Local three digit Local Prefixes that you enter; Same Area
Code, which are listings in the Same Area Code but not included in
the list of Local Prefixes that you enter; and, Out of Area, which
are listings in another area code. To correctly configure your modem:
1) Select the proper modem port by highlighting Modem Port and using
the arrow keys to display the proper port. i.e. COM1, COM2, COM3,
COM4. 2) Enter your area code. 3) Enter all of the local prefixes
(the three digits of a telephone number that follow an area code)
Prefix is also referred to as exchange and NNX. 4) Configure the
dialing sequence for Local, Same Area and Out-of-Area Listings. The
default sequences are: Local Calls (#), Same Area Calls (1#), Out of
Area Calls (1A#). If you need to dial 9 for an outside line, enter
this first, i.e. 9,1A# for Out of Area Calls. You may wish to use a
comma after the 9 to ensure that you have reached the outside line.
The special dialing characters used in configuring the dialing
sequence are A for the area code, # for the last seven digits.

Will Print/Export/Count designated listings. Use the up/down arrow
keys to move to the selected option field. Use the right/left arrow keys
to toggle through the options.

Hint: Be sure you have pressed enter after entering in the information
you are searching for in the Data Entry Window.

Will display all of the entries you have tagged by pressing the
'Space' key on top of a highlighted listing. It is helpful to display
tagged entries before exporting, printing or counting them.
//ALTF4
Will clear all tagged entries.
//F5
Will sort the highlighted listing in the Scan Window by address.
This will instantly display a other listings on the same street.
This feature is currently only available in Select Phone,
Free Phone and Canada Phone.
//ALTF5
Will sort the highlighted listing in the Scan Window by
telephone number. This will instantly display listings with adjacent
telephone numbers.
This feature is currently only available in Select Phone,
Free Phone and Canada Phone.
//CTRLF5
Will sort the highlighted listing in the Scan Window by
name. This will instantly display a list of listings with adjacent
names.
//F6
When in the State/Phone/SIC fields, this will bring up a list
selection box. If you are not sure what the area code for Connecticut
is you can enter CT to retrieve a list of area codes within that state.
Within the SIC (Standard Industrial Classification) field you
can enter all or part of a heading to retrieve a group of SIC codes
that match your search requiremen
